I just finished reading this new YA book this past week. The book is Divergent by Veronica Roth. Apparently she is a fairly new author on the young adult book scene, and I must say she is very highly talented. I really enjoyed reading the book. While it is another dystopian era type book, it’s unlike any other I have read thus far. In Divergent society has divided itself into five factions, each extolling a specific virtue (honesty, Selflessness, Bravery, Peacefulness, and Intelligence). At the age of 16 every member of society must choose one of the factions to dedicate the rest of their lives to. Once the decision is made the kids leave their homes to go through an initiation period to join the faction as a full member, whether it be the faction they were born into or another faction. We follow Beatrice (Tris) as she makes her decision and shocks everyone.
I found Divergent very hard to put down. It kept my attention from the first page to the last. I will definitely be following Veronica Roth’s literary career. I cannot wait for the second book to come out in this series. I highly recommend reading Divergent to anyone who enjoys the dystopian era books. You will not be disappointed!
