A day of remembrance…

This morning I watched the 9/11 memorial ceremony on tv. So many lives were altered that day. I was getting up that morning to get ready for work, since I did not have any classes that day. I walked into the living room just as the second plane hit on live tv. I remember the sinking feeling I had in my stomach, questioning if this was real. I went to work still in shock, needless to say the Hallmark store was deserted that day. We listened to the radio intently for information. The army surplus next door was very busy with reserve officers in uniform going into and out pick up supplies. The gas station on the corner was beyond packed. People lined up all up and down the roads waiting to get in and fill up with gas. One person tried to fill up containers that were not made to hold gas, causing a leak and having to have the fire station crew come down and clean it up.

I remember worrying about my friend in the Marines who I knew was going to be in the area of the twin towers that day for a meeting. Thinking of my friends and family in the military. We ended up closing the store early. That was a very scary time. Having history, terrible history, forced on you and your country by others. It was heartbreaking today watching the family members of the fallen read off the names of those who lost their lives that day. I don’t think anyone will ever forget that day, I know I won’t.

To all those who lost a loved ones in the attack, I am so sorry for your loss. To all those who serve in our military to protect us, Thank you!

Long weekend…

Looks like my memo to mother nature to turn on the AC finally made it through, and just in time for the long weekend! We had a wonderful three-day weekend. We were able to spend quite a bit of time outside on the back patio yesterday afternoon. There was a nice cool breeze. Dave also took advantage of the nice weather to work on clearing out some trees in the front and back yard around the house. It was definitely quite a change of pace to go outside in the morning to take Taffy out, and instead of instantly starting to sweat find yourself thinking about a light jacket.

We had some family come up for a visit, did some shopping and more work around the house. No grilling though, I think we are still under a burn ban. I think I am going to be a little leery about grilling outside for a long while after all those fires we’ve had here in the city. At any rate, it was a nice peaceful weekend. I’m not too excited about going to work tomorrow, but I’ll go anyway.

I didn’t really do any reading this weekend, but I was able to finish up one knitting project and start another project. It’s always a fun day when you bind off on a project. I knitted up some fingerless mitts over the weekend. I’ll get pictures up as soon as I can find the transfer cable for my camera or buy an SD card reader for my computer. More blogging to come soon I promise.
